Roman Statkowski (1860-1925) was a Polish composer and pedagogue known for his works in the late romantic period of 19th and early 20th century. He was born on January 5, 1860, in Szczypiorno, Poland, and studied at the Warsaw Conservatory under Zygmunt Noskowski. He also took lessons in harmony and counterpoint with Heinrich Urban in Berlin.

Statkowski's compositions included operas, chamber music, symphonic works, and solo pieces for piano. His first opera, Maria (1893), was highly regarded and is still performed today in Poland. He also gained recognition for his two string quartets, which were written in the late 1890s. Additionally, he is known for his solo piano works, which demonstrate his love for the romantic style of composition.

Statkowski's influence on music education in Poland was significant as well. He taught at various music schools in Warsaw, including the Warsaw Conservatory, and served as the director of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and the Warsaw Music Society. He was also a key figure in the Society of Polish Composers, and he founded the Warsaw Music Publishing House.

Despite his accomplishments, Statkowski's music has not received much attention outside of Poland, and his name is not widely recognized outside of music communities. However, his music certainly deserves more attention and recognition as it embodies the romanticism and nationalism that defined much of Polish music during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
