Robert Aldridge is an American Grammy-winning composer born in 1954 in Richmond, Virginia. He has composed music for operas, ballets, symphonies, and solo instruments. Aldridge's works have been performed by various notable orchestras and ensembles, including the New York Philharmonic and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
One of his most well-known works is the opera "Elmer Gantry", which received critical acclaim and was commissioned by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. His other operas include "Sister Carrie" and "Parables", which were created in partnership with lyricist Herschel Garfein.
In addition to his work as a composer, Aldridge has also taught music composition at various institutions, including the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the University of Miami. He has won multiple awards for his compositions, including a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition in 2012 for "Elmer Gantry".
