Full biography Richard Blackford
Richard Blackford is an award-winning British composer with extensive experience in writing music in every genre , from commercial to art music. He was the first Composer in Residence at Balliol College , Oxford, and has been commissioned to write numerous pieces for a wide range of organizations and events.
One of Blackford's most notable works is the opera "Metamorphoses," which he wrote for the Centenary of the Royal Ballet. He has also composed a Stabat Mater entitled "Piet," which was premiered in 2019 for string orchestra, chorus, and soloists, and has been described as a timely and powerful response to the troubled times we live in.
Despite setbacks caused by the pandemic, Blackford has continued to write and compose, creating pieces such as "Christmas Dawn," which was commissioned by Em Marshall-Luck for her Christmas Garland concert in 2020. Additionally, Blackford has supported virtual choral projects and has written solo works for various instrumentalists.
Blackford has also collaborated with other composers, such as Giuseppe Verdi, with whom he composed the Requiem. He has been recognized with several awards for his compositions, including the Ivor Novello Award, and his music has been performed by leading orchestras and ensembles around the world.
