Riccardo Barthelemy, also known as Richard Barthelemy, was an Italian composer and pianist born on November 2, 1869, in Smyrna. He is now considered a forgotten composer but had notable achievements in his time. Barthelemy won a gold medal at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm for his composition "Olympic Triumphal March" in the arts competitions category, beating out competition from other composers of the time.
He also composed a number of other works, including operas, musical comedies, and instrumental music. Many of his compositions were published throughout his career. Barthelemy was said to be friends with the famous opera singer Enrico Caruso and consulted with him on writing down his compositions.
Barthelemy spent much of his life living in Milan, where he served as a professor of music at the "Niccolò Piccinni" Conservatory. He passed away on January 23, 1955, in Milan. Despite his achievements, Barthelemy's legacy has largely been forgotten, and his works are not widely performed or studied today.
