Zimmermann also played an important role in the development of the French national school of music. He was a member of the Paris Conservatoire and taught several famous composers, including Georges Bizet and Charles Gounod. Zimmermann's influence on French music was significant, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians.

Despite his success in the music world, Zimmermann faced personal struggles, including financial difficulty and a failing marriage. He passed away in 1853 in relative obscurity, but his contributions to music history continue to be recognized to this day.
