He was born on October 1, 1771, in Passy, France, and died on September 15, 1842. Despite financial hardship and early setbacks in his career, Baillot persevered and went on to establish himself as one of the most significant and fascinating figures in the history of French violin playing.

Baillot studied under Giovanni Battista Viotti and became one of his most distinguished pupils. He later became a professor at the Paris Conservatory, where he taught many future virtuosos, including Charles de Bériot, Henri Vieuxtemps, and Louis Spohr. Baillot was highly respected for his innovative pedagogical approach, which emphasized the importance of developing proper technique, phrasing, and expression.
