Full biography Philip Glass
Philip Glass (born January 31 , 1937) is an American composer and pianist who became known as one of the most prominent figures in the minimalist music movement. His innovative and experimental composition style has influenced a wide range of music genres, including classical, electronic, and rock.
Glass was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and began studying the violin at a young age. He later attended the University of Chicago and the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with French composer and conductor Nadia Boulanger.
Throughout his career, Glass has composed over 25 operas, 11 symphonies, and numerous other works for a variety of ensembles, including string quartets and solo piano pieces. Some of his most famous works include his operas Einstein on the Beach and Satyagraha, as well as his scores for the films Koyaanisqatsi and The Hours.
Glass has won numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including a Golden Globe for his score to The Truman Show and induction into the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He has also collaborated with a number of famous musicians, including David Bowie, Brian Eno, and Patti Smith.
Despite his fame and success, Glass remains dedicated to his craft and continues to write and perform music to this day. He has become known as one of the most important and influential composers of the 20th century, and his work has had a lasting impact on the world of music.
