Philibert Delavigne (1790-1869) was a French composer and author. He was born in Rouen, France and studied music at the Paris Conservatory. Delavigne composed mainly for the flute and wrote numerous sonatas, concertos, and chamber works for the instrument.
His compositions are characterized by their lyrical melodies and virtuosic passages. Some of his well-known works include the 6 Sonatas for Alto Recorder and Piano, Op.1 and the 5 Sonatas for Flute and Bass Continuo, Op.2.
Apart from music, Delavigne was also known for his literary works. He wrote several plays, novels, and poems and was a member of the French Academy. Some of his notable literary works include the plays Louis XI and Catherine Howard and the novel Évariste Galois.
Delavigne's contributions to music and literature have made him an important figure in French culture. His works continue to be performed and enjoyed by musicians and enthusiasts around the world.
