Pedro Antonio Avondano was a Portuguese composer and violinist who lived from 1714 to 1782. He was one of Portugal's leading composers of instrumental music and is primarily known for his keyboard pieces and sonatas. Avondano was born in Lisbon and was baptised there on April 16th, 1714. He was a violinist in the Royal Chamber and was considered an excellent composer, often praised for the beauty and melodiousness of his works.
Avondano's music is characterized by elegant melodies and graceful ornamentation. He wrote music for a variety of instruments, including harpsichord, flute, and strings. Despite his talents, Avondano's music fell into obscurity for many years after his death. It wasn't until the 20th century that interest in his works began to revive, with scholars and musicologists exploring and rediscovering his compositions.
Some of Avondano's notable works include his sonatas for harpsichord, which were published in Paris in the 1730s, and his opera "Il Mondo Della Luna" (The World on the Moon), which premiered in Lisbon in 1750.
