Full biography Paul Creston
Paul Creston was an Italian-American composer and pianist known for his contributions to classical music. He was born on October 10, 1906, in New York City, and passed away on August 24, 1985, in San Diego. Creston's parents were immigrants from Sicily, and he grew up in Staten Island where he was largely self-taught in music, although he did receive some piano and violin lessons.
Creston composed in a wide range of styles, from neo-classical to serialism, but was best known for his rhythmic vitality and full harmonies. His works include six symphonies, numerous concertos for various instruments, chamber music, and vocal and choral music. One of his most well-known works is the Concertino for Marimba and Orchestra.
Throughout his career, Creston was recognized for his contributions to the field of classical music. He won multiple awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and the New York Music Critics' Circle Award. He also published a book titled "Principles of Rhythm," which is still widely used in music education.
