Full biography Patrick Hawes
Patrick Hawes is a British composer, pianist, conductor, and organist who was born in 1958. He has gained acclaim as a contemporary composer who writes melodic and lyrical music , particularly sacred choral music. Hawes has also written music for piano, orchestra, and film.
After leaving teaching in 1997, Hawes pursued his career as a composer and wrote his first album, Blue in Blue, followed by his second album, Quanta Qualia, which has become one of his most famous and popular compositions. He was appointed Composer in Residence at Classic FM in 2006 , where he wrote twelve pieces for piano, each of which was premiered over a period of one year.
In addition to his work as a composer, Hawes has also conducted numerous choirs, including those at The Royal Opera House and St. Martin-in-the-Fields. His music has been performed and recorded by many leading artists, including internationally renowned classical singers such as Bryn Terfel and Russell Watson.
Hawes has gained particular recognition for his sacred choral music, which is often performed in cathedral and church settings. He has written a number of pieces for Christian worship, such as The Beatitudes, Love is the Key, and Prayer to a Guardian Angel. Hawes has also composed music for films and television programs, including The Vicar of Dibley and the BBC's Winterwatch.
