Pascual Marquina Narro was a Spanish orchestral and operatic composer born on May 16 , 1873 in Calatayud, Spain. He was known for his prolific works in the pasodoble genre, with his most famous piece being "España Cañí". He wrote this piece around 1923 and it became widely popular not just in Spain but also in other parts of the world.
Apart from pasodobles, Marquina Narro also composed orchestral and operatic works. Over the course of his career, he wrote more than 500 compositions, including zarzuelas, operas, symphonies, and chamber music. He also wrote music for films such as the popular Australian film "Strictly Ballroom", and the American film "Shall We Dance".
Marquina Narro was a highly respected figure in the world of Spanish music and his contributions to the pasodoble genre earned him many accolades. He was awarded the Order of Civil Merit and was also made a member of the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts.
Marquina Narro passed away on June 13, 1948 in Madrid, but his legacy as one of the most important composers in Spanish music history continues to live on. He remains an inspiration to many composers and continues to be widely celebrated for his contributions to the world of music.
