Full biography Otto Malling
Otto Valdemar Malling (1848-1915) was a Danish composer and organist who studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with notable composers Niels Gade and Johan (J.P.E) Hartmann. Malling composed mainly organ works and vocal music but also wrote several instrumental pieces such as a string octet and a piano concerto. He served as a teacher and composer and eventually became a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Malling is considered one of the important Danish composers of his time and has influenced many Scandinavian composers, including Edvard Grieg and Carl Nielsen. Some of his most notable compositions include the Fantasia for Violin and Orchestra, Op.20 and the String Octet in D minor, Op.50. Ultimately, Malling's contributions to music have earned him a prominent place in Danish music.
