Otto Moritz David Goldschmidt was a German composer , conductor and pianist who lived from August 21, 1829 to February 24, 1907. He was best known for his piano concertos, and his compositions often featured elements of classical music, such as fugues and contrapuntal textures. Goldschmidt was also a skilled conductor and led many orchestras, including the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Society in London.

In addition to his own compositions, Goldschmidt was known for his arrangements of music by other composers. For example, he worked closely with the famous violinist Pablo de Sarasate to create arrangements of Sarasate's works for piano and orchestra.

Goldschmidt had a notable personal life as well. He married the Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind in 1852, and the two had three children together. He also wrote music for his wife to perform, including the song cycle "Swedish Songs," which featured texts by Lind's favorite writer, Hans Christian Andersen.

Despite his significant contributions to the world of music, Goldschmidt is not as well known today as some of his contemporaries. However, his music is still performed and recorded, and his legacy lives on through his compositions and arrangements.
