Full biography Osvaldo Golijov
Osvaldo Golijov is an Argentine composer known for his eclectic approach to classical music. He was born on December 5, 1960 and grew up in La Plata, Argentina. Golijov studied music at the La Plata Conservatory and later at the Jerusalem Rubin Academy in Israel. He went on to study at the United States and eventually settled in Boston, where he became a professor at the College of Fine Arts at Boston University.
Throughout his career, Golijov has composed a wide range of music, ranging from orchestral works to film scores, and is particularly known for his vocal works. He has been commissioned by a number of prestigious orchestras and organizations, including the New York Philharmonic and the Kronos Quartet. His work often incorporates elements from a range of musical traditions, including klezmer, tango, and Middle Eastern music.
Golijov's most famous work is probably his opera "Ainadamar," which premiered in 2003 and won two Grammy Awards. The opera, which tells the story of Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca, is known for its lush melodies and Latin American rhythms. Other notable works by Golijov include the song cycle "Falling Out of Time," based on a book by the Israeli writer David Grossman , and the score for the film "The Man Who Cried."
Despite the critical acclaim and commercial success of his work, Golijov has also faced controversy during his career. In 2012, he was accused of plagiarism and faced criticism for his treatment of collaborators. These issues led to a period of silence for Golijov, during which he struggled to produce new work. However, in recent years, he has begun to reemerge as a prominent figure in contemporary classical music, with "Falling Out of Time" being seen as a powerful and moving return to form.
