Ofer Ben-Amots is a renowned contemporary American-Israeli composer who has earned a reputation for innovative and creative classical compositions. He was born in Haifa, Israel, in 1955, and began to study piano and composition at a young age.
After relocating to the United States, Ben-Amots studied at the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem, followed by the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. His compositions draw from his Jewish and Middle Eastern cultural influences, often incorporating traditional melodies and harmonies into his modern works.
Ben-Amots has earned numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Aaron Copland Award for composition and the National Endowment for the Arts grant. He has also completed commissions for prestigious ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Boston Musica Viva.
In addition to his work as a composer, Ben-Amots is a respected educator and Professor of Composition and Theory at Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
