Short bio Nicola Fago
Full biography Nicola Fago
Francesco Nicola Fago, also known as 'II Tarantino', was an Italian Baroque composer born on February 26, 1677, in Taranto. He was an accomplished composer and a teacher who left a significant impact on the music of his era. Fago was the father of Lorenzo Fago, who also became a composer.
Fago is considered a crucial figure in the transition from the seventeenth-century tradition of Italian opera to the vocal music of the eighteenth century. He was highly influential in his day, and his compositions were widely performed. He wrote several operas, masses, and oratorios, as well as chamber music and sacred pieces.
Fago was one of the leading figures in the Neapolitan school, and his musical style was characterized by colorful harmonies and virtuosic vocal writing. He was also a highly respected teacher and served as the maestro di cappella at the Naples Conservatory for many years, where he trained many prominent composers.
Despite his significant contributions to the music of his time, Fago is not as well known today as some of his contemporaries. However, his music lives on and is still performed and studied today by those interested in Baroque music.
