Nacio Herb Brown (February 22 , 1896 - September 28, 1964) was an American composer and songwriter who is best known for his work in film scores and Broadway theatre music. Born in Deming, New Mexico, he attended the Musical Arts High School in Los Angeles and was largely self-taught in music. Despite his limited formal training, he became a highly successful popular composer, writing with lyricists such as Arthur Freed.

Brown's collaborations with Freed produced numerous hit songs, including "You Were Meant for Me," "You're an Old Smoothie," and "Singin' in the Rain," which was later adapted into a popular film. In addition to his work in musicals and film scores, Brown also wrote popular songs. His compositions were performed by notable artists such as Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, and Nat King Cole.

Over his career, Brown earned a number of accolades for his work, including induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. Today, many of his songs continue to be performed and enjoyed by audiences around the world.
