Morton Gould (December 10 , 1913 – February 21, 1996) was an American composer, conductor, arranger, and pianist. He was born in Richmond Hill, New York and showed a remarkable talent for music at an early age. He began playing the piano at the age of four and quickly became a child prodigy, leading him to make his first public appearance at the age of six.
Gould's talent continued to grow as he pursued his music career, eventually becoming one of the most prominent American composers of his time. He composed music in a wide range of genres, including classical, jazz, and popular music, but he was best known for his contributions to the symphonic world.
Gould's music was notable for its creative use of rhythms, harmonies, and orchestration, as well as its incorporation of popular music styles. Some of his most popular works include "American Salute," "Bugs Bunny on Broadway," and "Star-Spangled Overture."
In addition to composing, Gould also worked as a conductor and arranger throughout his career. He conducted many major American orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Gould was the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1995 for his work "Stringmusic." He was also inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame in 1998.
