Michael Jeffrey Shapiro is an American composer , conductor, and author who has made significant contributions in the field of classical music. Shapiro began his music career as a pianist, but later moved towards composition. He is known for his unique style that incorporates traditional classical music with a modern twist.

Shapiro has composed numerous pieces for orchestras, chamber groups, soloists, and choirs. Some of his well-known works include "Frankenstein," "Transformations," and "Still Life." He has been commissioned to write music for a variety of ensembles, including the Chappaqua Orchestra in New York.

In addition to his work as a composer , Shapiro is also an accomplished conductor and has worked with many orchestras and ensembles, including the New York Youth Symphony and the New York Philharmonic. He has also authored several books on music and conducted lectures and workshops on various aspects of music.

Shapiro is a graduate of Columbia University and holds a doctorate in composition from the Manhattan School of Music. He is currently a professor of music at the College of Staten Island, CUNY, and continues to compose, conduct, and perform music.
