Maya Badian is a Romanian-born Canadian composer, musicologist, and professor. She was born on April 18, 1945, in Bucharest. She is acknowledged as the only Canadian composer of Romanian origin to have achieved a high level of symphonic sense. Badian is an internationally renowned concert music composer, and her works have been performed at various venues worldwide. She has received numerous awards and honors for her work, including the Romanian Academy's George Enescu Prize and the Canadian Music Council's Jacqueline Lemieux Prize. Badian's compositions often feature rich orchestration and explore unique tonal relationships.
