Max Beckschäfer was a German church musician and composer who lived from October 28 , 1956, to September 1, 2020. He was born in Kassel and studied church music, musicology, and philosophy in Frankfurt am Main and Munich. He held a number of prestigious positions during his career, including serving as the musical director of the Basilica of St. Boniface in Munich and working as an organist at the parish of St. Ludwig in Munich.

Beckschäfer was known for his arrangements of classical works, including his organ version of Max Reger's Requiem and his arrangement of the same work for voice. He also composed a number of works for a cappella choir, many of which were published by Universal Edition. Beckschäfer's music was often described as being influenced by both traditional German church music and contemporary styles, and he was praised for his ability to blend these two influences in inventive ways.

Sadly, Beckschäfer passed away in September of 2020 at the age of 63. His contributions to the world of classical music and church music will be remembered for years to come.
