Maurice Greene was an English composer born in 1696 in London. Greene was one of the most famous composers of his time, particularly for his church music. He was appointed the organist and composer at St. Paul's Cathedral in London in 1727, where he remained until his death in 1755.
Greene's music was highly regarded during his life and in the years following his death, but it has since fallen into obscurity. Despite this, several of his works have remained popular and are occasionally performed today. Some of his most well-known works include his anthem "Lord, Let Me Know Mine End," his Te Deum in A, and his Service in F.
In addition to his work as a composer, Greene was known as an excellent organist and harpsichordist, often performing at concerts and events in London. He was also a well-respected music educator and served as the professor of music at Cambridge University from 1730 until his death.
Overall, Maurice Greene was a highly respected composer during his time and made significant contributions to English church music. Although he is not as well-known today as some of his contemporaries, his music continues to be appreciated by those familiar with it.
