Martijn Padding is a Dutch composer and educator, born in Amsterdam in 1956. His music is performed both in the Netherlands and internationally. Padding was taught by many great composers, including Louis Andriessen and Brian Ferneyhough. Padding describes his own style of composing as "making a meal of writing down something quite meager," which he affectionately calls "ramschackleness."

Padding has composed works for a variety of ensembles , including orchestral works, chamber music, and vocal pieces. He has received several commissions, including a farewell work "Ick seg adieu" commissioned by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2015 , in honor of their outgoing chief conductor Mariss Jansons. In addition, his music has been performed by renowned ensembles such as The Asko|Schönberg Ensemble and the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble.

Padding is also an educator, having taught composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, The Netherlands, where he himself studied. Furthermore, he has been a visiting professor at several prestigious institutions, including the University of California, San Diego and the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, Japan.
