Short bio Cornelis Thymenszoon Padbrue
Full biography Cornelis Thymenszoon Padbrue
Cornelis Thymenszoon Padbrue was a Dutch composer of the Baroque period. Little is known about his early life and education, but he was active as a musician in Utrecht during the mid-17th century. He was primarily known as an organist and was appointed as the organist of the Buurkerk in Utrecht in 1665.
Padbrue's surviving works include both vocal and instrumental music. His religious music includes a number of hymns, motets, and psalms, many of which were intended for liturgical use in the Dutch Reformed Church. The instrumental music by Padbrue, on the other hand, includes a collection of trio sonatas, which were often performed during church services.
Out of his works, Padbrue's "Psalm 84," which features a haunting soprano melody set against a shimmering organ, is perhaps the most famous. His music is characterized by a sophisticated use of polyphony and stately harmonies, which is reminiscent of the works of his contemporary, Johann Sebastian Bach.
Padbrue's contributions to the Dutch Baroque period is often overshadowed by his more well-known contemporaries, but his music is well-regarded for its beauty and technical mastery. He remains a beloved figure in the history of Dutch music and continues to be performed and studied by musicians today.
