Mark Lothar (1902-1985) was a German composer best known for his opera "Schneider Wibbel". He was born in Berlin, Germany, and studied composition with Franz Schreker, among others. In addition to his work as a composer, he also wrote several librettos for operas, including for "Momo und die Zeitdiebe" by Wilfried Hiller.

Lothar began his career as a composer during the Weimar Republic in the 1920s, and his early works reflect the influence of contemporary composers such as Schreker and Hindemith. In the 1930s, he worked as a music director for various theater companies in Germany, and later worked in broadcasting for Radio Berlin.

Lothar's most famous work, "Schneider Wibbel", premiered in Duisburg in 1938 and is a comic opera based on a folk tale. The opera was well received and has been performed numerous times since its premiere.

Throughout his career, Lothar also wrote music for film and television, including the music for the German TV series "Der Kommissar". He was married to the opera singer Ursula Buckel, who performed in many of his works.

Today, Mark Lothar is remembered as an important figure in German music during the first half of the 20th century.
