Marijan Lipovšek was a Slovenian composer who lived from 1902 to 1975. He was born in the small town of Rakek and spent most of his life in Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. Lipovšek was a very prolific composer who wrote over 200 pieces of music, including symphonies, chamber music, vocal music, and operas.

Lipovšek began studying music at an early age, and he showed great talent as a composer and pianist. In 1920, he enrolled in the Vienna State Academy of Music and Drama, where he studied under the renowned Austrian composer Franz Schmidt. Lipovšek's time in Vienna was an important period in his development as a composer, and he was exposed to many of the great composers of the time.

After completing his studies in Vienna, Lipovšek returned to Ljubljana, where he spent many years working as a music teacher. He also composed extensively during this time, and many of his most famous works were written during this period.

Throughout his career, Lipovšek's music was characterized by its lyrical beauty, melodic invention, and harmonic richness. His style was deeply rooted in the Austro-German tradition, but he also incorporated elements of Slovenian folk music into his work.
