Maria Teresa Agnesi was an Italian composer born in Milan in 1720. She was the eldest of 21 siblings, and her father, Pietro Agnesi, was a man of great wealth and influence who had a passion for music. He encouraged her musical talents early on, and she began her formal training at the age of nine.

Maria Teresa Agnesi was quickly recognized as a child prodigy, and her musical career took off in the early 1740s. She composed and performed extensively throughout northern Italy, gaining fame for her keyboard performances and vocal works. She was known for her virtuosity on the harpsichord, and her compositions were often technically challenging and complex.

In addition to her musical accomplishments, Maria Teresa Agnesi was also a gifted mathematician and philosopher. Her writings on math were praised by some of the most significant minds of the time, including the famous mathematician Jean le Rond d'Alembert.
