Marco Scacchi was an Italian composer and writer on music , born around 1600 in the town of Gallese, Lazio. He studied under Giovanni Francesco Anerio in Rome , where he likely gained valuable insights into music theory and composition. Scacchi served as the court capellmeister for the Grand Duke , and was a prolific composer, writing works such as "II ratto di Helena". He is also known for his written works on music , including "Cribrum musicum ad triticum Siferticum seu , Examinatio succincta axiomatum", which demonstrated his knowledge of musical criticism. Scacchi was a respected member of the music community during his lifetime and his works continue to be studied and performed today. Some of Scacchi's colleagues and assistants include Bartlomiej Pekiel, a Polish composer of choral music who served under Scacchi at the Warsaw court.
