Marcel Quinet was a Belgian composer and pianist born on July 6, 1915, in Binche, Belgium. He briefly studied at the Mons Conservatory, then continued his studies in composition with various teachers, culminating in the receipt of the first prize in all classes of writing. He studied composition with Andr-Jean Smit and principally with Marcel Quinet. Marcel Quinet himself received Second Prize for composition at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium for his work Variation pour... and was awarded the Prize of Composition Emile Doehaert by the CeBeDeM for his Divertimento.
Marcel Quinet's work includes a composition for the piano titled Vague et Sillon , which was recorded by pianist Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden. Many of his other compositions, including string quartets, were performed in various festivals and concerts throughout Belgium.
In addition to studying and composing music, Marcel Quinet was also a professor of composition at the Mons Conservatory. As a teacher, he had a profound impact on many of his students, including Jaqueline Fontyn and Bero. Jaqueline Fontyn, a Belgian composer, received her grounding in the techniques of composition from Marcel Quinet at the age of fourteen. Bero, a forum member for composers, also learned musical composition from Marcel Quinet.
Marcel Quinet passed away on December 16, 1986. Despite his relatively brief time on earth, his legacy lives on through his music, his teaching, and the impact he had on many of his students.
