Lucio D. San Pedro was a notable Filipino composer known for his contributions to classical and traditional Filipino music. Born on February 11, 1913, in Angono, Rizal, he was the son of a church organist.

San Pedro studied music at the University of the Philippines (UP) and later completed his Bachelor of Music degree in 1936. He continued his studies at the Conservatory of Music in Manila and eventually received a Fulbright scholarship to study music at the Eastman School of Music in New York in 1953.

Among San Pedro's most famous compositions was the song "Sa Ugoy ng Duyan," which was regularly played on Philippine radio programs and even became a favorite lullaby of Philippine mothers. The song tells the story of a mother singing a lullaby to her child, expressing her love and care.

Aside from "Sa Ugoy ng Duyan," San Pedro composed several other notable compositions, including "Lahing Kayumanggi," "Pandanggo sa Ilaw," and "Simbang Gabi."

Throughout his career, San Pedro received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to Filipino music. He was elected as a member of the UNESCO International Music Council in 1963, and in 1979, he was awarded the prestigious CCP Gawad Para sa Sining Award for Music.

Lucio D. San Pedro passed away on March 31, 2002, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire musicians and music lovers alike to this day.
