Short bio Louis Niedermeyer
Full biography Louis Niedermeyer
Louis Niedermeyer was a Swiss and naturalized French composer who lived from 1802 to 1861. He is best known for his church music, but he also wrote a few operas and vocal music. Interestingly, he started out as a failed opera composer, but eventually went on to become a modestly successful composer. Niedermeyer studied music in Geneva and later became a professor at the Geneva Conservatory. He also founded the Ecole Niedermeyer in Paris, which was later renamed the Ecole Choron and became a school for the study of church music. One of his most famous works is the grand opera "Stradella", which he composed to a libretto by Emile Deschamps and Milien Pacini ). Although Niedermeyer's music is not as well-known as that of some of his contemporaries, his contributions to church music and opera cannot be overlooked.
