Leonard Kastle (February 11, 1929 – May 18, 2011) was an American composer, librettist, writer, and director. Though he worked in several artistic fields, he is best known for his work in film and for his direction of the low-budget 1969 movie, "The Honeymoon Killers," for which he also wrote the screenplay.

Kastle was born in New York City and studied music at Hofstra University, where he earned a degree in music theory and composition. He later went on to get a master's degree from Columbia University.

In addition to his work in film, Kastle was also an accomplished opera composer and librettist. He composed several operas in his lifetime and his works were performed on both television and in concert halls. Kastle was highly influenced by the works of Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss and often incorporated aspects of their style into his own compositions.

Despite his success in the arts, Kastle was known to shun the limelight. He only directed one film, "The Honeymoon Killers," which was based on a true story and dealt with the exploits of a murderous couple. However, he did write several other screenplays that were never produced.

Kastle passed away in 2011 at the age of 82. His legacy as a multi-talented artist and gifted composer lives on, and his work continues to inspire and influence new generations of creatives.
