Lauro Rossi was an Italian composer and teacher during the 19th century period from 1830 to 1880. He was born in a small town called Macerata, Italy, on February 13, 1812. He studied music in Naples and later became a student in Milan at the local conservatory, where he would go on to teach later in life.

Rossi was a prominent composer, but he was also known for his teaching abilities, which earned him respect within the music community. Many of his students went on to become successful musicians, conductors, and composers themselves. Rossi composed a wide range of music, from chamber music to opera, but he is most well-known for his operas, which were popular during his lifetime. Some of his notable works include "Cleopatra," "Amelia ovvero otto anni di costanza," and "Il domino nero."

In addition to his compositions , Rossi was an occasional correspondent for the Milanese newspaper "Gazzetta musicale di Milano." He was also a friend and colleague of other prominent Italian composers, such as Pietro Platania, Teodulo Mabellini, and Antonio Carlos Gomes, with whom he studied at the Milan conservatory.

Rossi passed away on May 5, 1885, at the age of 73 in Milan, Italy. Today, he is remembered as an influential figure in Italian music during the 19th century and is celebrated for his contributions as both a composer and a teacher.
