Karol Kazimierz Kurpinski (1785-1857) was a prominent Polish composer, conductor, and pedagogue of the Romantic era. He was born on March 6, 1785, in Warka, Poland, and showed his musical talents at a very young age. He studied music in Warsaw with Józef Elsner and traveled to Italy, where he studied with Gioacchino Rossini. Kurpinski returned to Warsaw and became one of the most important figures in the Polish musical world.

Kurpinski composed music for the theatre, including operas, ballets, and incidental music. He wrote over 20 operas, including the popular Jadwiga, Queen of Poland, as well as music for ballets such as Bolero and Catarina. Kurpinski's music is characterized by its nationalistic elements, incorporating Polish folk melodies and rhythms into his compositions.

In addition to his compositional work, Kurpinski worked as a conductor and director of the National Theatre in Warsaw, where he oversaw the premiere of many of his operas. He also served as a professor of music at the Warsaw Conservatory and mentored many important Polish composers, including Stanislaw Moniuszko and Jozef Stefani.

Despite his contributions to the Polish musical world, Kurpinski's music fell out of favor in the early 20th century. However, in recent years, there has been a renewed interest in his work, and his compositions have been performed more frequently both in Poland and abroad.
