Karl Ludwig Gerok (1815-1890) was a German composer and religious poet. In addition to his work as a composer, he was also an influential preacher and theologian. Gerok composed hymns and choral music, and his works were often based on religious themes. He is particularly known for his composition of the chorale prelude "Gelobt sei Gott im höchsten Thron" which is traditionally performed on Easter.

Gerok was born in Stuttgart , Germany and received his initial music education at the Stuttgart Conservatory. After finishing his musical studies, he became a pastor and began composing hymns. He later returned to the Stuttgart Conservatory as a professor of hymnology.

Gerok's influence on church music in Germany is significant. He was known for his ability to blend traditional hymn structures with modern harmonic techniques. His works are still performed and recorded to this day. Gerok's life and contributions to the field of music and religious poetry continue to be celebrated in Germany and beyond.
