Full biography Justin Heinrich Knecht
Justin Heinrich Knecht was a German composer, writer, and organist who lived from 1752 to 1817. He was born in Biberach in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. Knecht attended a Lutheran college in Tubingen, where he studied theology and music. After completing his studies, he worked as an organist in Stuttgart and later in Ulm.
Knecht wrote in a variety of musical genres, including vocal music, opera, stage works, and symphonies. He is known for his church music and also composed for the theatre. One of his most notable works is "Le Portrait musical de la Nature," which Beethoven admired and drew inspiration from for his own Symphony No. 6, "Pastoral."
Knecht was a self-taught musician who had musical instruction from local teachers. He was also a writer on music and published several works, including "Luthers Verdienste um Musik und Poesie." Knecht died in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1817.
Although Knecht is not as well-known as some other composers of his time, his contributions to music are significant. The influence of his work can be seen in the music of Beethoven and other composers who followed him.
