Justin Connolly (11 August 1933 – 29 September 2020) was a British composer , born in London. He was known for his contributions to classical music, particularly his fluency in a Schoenbergian 12-note serial style which he subsequently withdrew. He studied composition with Anthony Gilbert in the UK and Tristram Cary in Australia before being offered scholarships to study with Aaron Copland in the US.

During his studies in America, his development was swift, and he was able to study with notable composers such as Samuel Barber, Roger Sessions, and Nadia Boulanger. However, Connolly's most significant influence during this period was with Elliot Carter. According to Connolly, working with Carter was a revelation which helped him reconcile his French and German musical influences.

Connolly later returned to the UK, where he continued to develop his music and reputation as a composer of contemporary classical music. He also worked as a professor at Goldsmiths College, University of London, where he taught composition for several years.

Connolly's music was widely performed and recorded in the UK and abroad. Notable works include "Ceilidh" for four violins and "Tesserae F - Domination of Black" for bass clarinet, both of which have been published by Novello/Wise Music.

Justin Connolly passed away on 29 September 2020. His contributions to contemporary classical music continue to be remembered and appreciated by music enthusiasts, composers, and musicians around the world.
