He was appointed as the chapel master of the Lima Cathedral in 1677, where he served for over 20 years. During this time, he created a significant number of works, including numerous choral pieces, hymns, and masses, all executed in the Baroque style.
One of Araujo's most famous works is his "Misa a la Inmaculada Concepción," which is a choral masterpiece that illustrates the composer's mastery of chromatic harmonies, counterpoint, and the use of instruments. His music was unique to the region and blended European Baroque style with indigenous music, creating a fusion of styles and sound.
