Full biography Josse Boutmy
Josse Boutmy (1697-1779) was a Flemish composer and keyboardist who lived during the Baroque era. He was born in Ghent, Belgium and studied at the Ghent Collegium Musicum with the renowned harpsichordist Jean-Baptiste Loeillet.
Boutmy was known for his proficiency on the harpsichord and organ, and he held positions as a harpsichordist in several churches throughout Flanders. He also served as the organist for several churches in Ghent.
In addition to his performances, Boutmy was also a prolific composer, known for his works for the harpsichord and organ. He published several collections of keyboard music, including suites and sonatas. Boutmy's compositions are characterized by their elegance, technical brilliance, and highly ornamented style.
Despite his many accomplishments as a performer and composer, Boutmy remained relatively unknown beyond his native Flanders during his lifetime. Nevertheless, his music has since gained recognition for its beauty and technical skill, and continues to be studied and performed by musicians and scholars around the world.
