Joseph Beer was a composer who began composition work in Vienna in the 1930s. He worked mainly in the genres of operettas and singspiele. Among his early instrumental works are the Corelli-Variationen for violin and clarinet, a sonata for cello and piano, and various other instrumental pieces. Beer was a prolific composer, and his works were performed frequently in Austria and Germany in the 1930s. However, as Beer was Jewish, his career was cut short by the rise of the Nazi regime in Germany. He fled to Paris, where he continued to compose music in exile. Beer's most popular work is the operetta "Polnische Hochzeit" (Polish Wedding), which premiered in Vienna in 1937. Beer died in Paris in 1958. Today, he is remembered as a talented composer whose career was tragically cut short by the politics of his time.
