Full biography Jose Bragato
José Bragato was an Italian-born Argentine cellist, composer, and arranger who lived from 1915 to 2017. He was known for his contributions to the world of tango music and his collaborations with legendary tango composer Astor Piazzolla.
Bragato studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires, where he later became a professor of harmony and counterpoint. He also played in the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra and the Teatro Colon Orchestra. In addition to his work in classical music, Bragato was an active player in the tango scene, performing with some of the genre's most famous musicians like Anibal Troilo.
As a composer and arranger, Bragato's works are known for their inventive harmonies and non-traditional approaches to instrumentation. One of his most famous compositions is "Graciela y Buenos Aires," a piece for cello and string orchestra that showcases his unique blend of classical and tango styles. He also arranged many of Piazzolla's works for chamber ensembles.
Bragato's contributions to the world of tango and classical music were widely recognized, and he was the recipient of many awards throughout his career. His legacy continues to live on through recordings of his music and the many musicians he influenced.
