John Addison (1920-1998) was a prolific British composer of orchestral and chamber concert music , as well as an Oscar and BAFTA winning film composer. Although he composed numerous classical compositions, he is best known for his work in the film industry, where he provided scores for over 60 films throughout his career.
Addison's most notable film score was for the 1963 film "Tom Jones", for which he won an Academy Award for Best Original Music Score. He also composed theme music for popular television shows like "Murder She Wrote". Addison's music was known for being elegant and sophisticated and his scores often used witty and whimsical melodies.
Aside from his film work, Addison was also a prolific composer for woodwinds. He won the Royal Philharmonic Society's prize for chamber music in 1948 and his music has been performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.
