Johannes Ghiselin (Verbonnet) was a Flemish composer of the Renaissance who lived from around 1455 to 1511. He is best known for his chansons and motets, although he also wrote secular songs in Dutch. Ghiselin's music is characterized by its clear and approachable melodies, and he was known for his skillful use of imitation and counterpoint.
Despite his contributions to the genre, relatively little is known about Ghiselin's life. He was likely born in the Netherlands, and spent much of his career working in the courts of Europe. He may have been employed by Louis XII of France and by Alfonso II of Naples, where he is thought to have composed L'Alfonsina, a chanson in honor of the king.
