Full biography Johannes Fritsch
Johannes Fritsch was a German composer who lived from 1941 to 2010. He was known for his work with experimental and electronic music. Fritsch studied composition at the Cologne Conservatory with Karlheinz Stockhausen and later became a member of the Stockhausen Ensemble. He founded the Ensemble of the Hörtrompete and later the Ensemble Modern together with Michael Riessler.
Fritsch's compositions were known for their use of technology and unorthodox sound sources. He was interested in exploring the boundaries between music and noise, and often incorporated sounds from everyday life into his works.
In June 2022, the first ever vinyl release dedicated to Fritsch's work was released by the label Metaphon. The album titled "Kyo Mu/Hochtner" included archival works by the German composer and received critical acclaim.
Fritsch also mentored several young composers and musicians, including Kevin Volans. He co-edited Feedback Papers along with Volans, a publication that focused on contemporary music.
