Johann Ulrich Steigleder (1593-1635) was an accomplished German Baroque composer and organist. He served as the court organist at the collegiate church in Tübingen, Germany, and was strongly associated with the town of Strasbourg during his lifetime. Steigleder is primarily remembered for his keyboard music, including his collection "Ricercar Tabulatura," which is considered to be a significant contribution to the early development of German keyboard music. Additionally, he was known for his religious works, which included hymns, choral contributions to Passion settings, and settings of the Te Deum. Steigleder's music is characterized by its clear, transparent textures and its use of the keyboard as a solo instrument. He was also known for being a contemporary of other prominent Baroque composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann. Although Steigleder's life was relatively short — he died at the age of 41 — his music has remained an important contribution to the Baroque repertoire.
