Johann Nicolaus Bach was a German Baroque composer who was born in Jena, Germany in 1669. He came from a highly musical family. His father, Johann Christoph Bach, was the elder brother of Johann Sebastian Bach's father, and they both played a key role in shaping the genre of Baroque music.

Johann Nicolaus Bach began his career as a musician and composer in his hometown of Jena and later went on to hold various musical positions in Leipzig, Erfurt and Frankfurt. His most significant contribution to music was his composition of choral music and his development of the cantata, which became one of the major musical forms of the Baroque era.

Bach's music was notable for its complexity and intricate harmonies. He was often compared to his more famous relative, Johann Sebastian Bach, and some of his works were mistaken for those of the more famous composer.

Despite not achieving the same level of fame as Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Nicolaus Bach was highly respected in his own right, and his works were highly regarded by his contemporaries. He died in 1753, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of Baroque music.
