Johann Friedrich Peter was a German composer who lived from 1746 to 1813. He was a well-respected figure in his time, known for his compositions of church music and operas. Peter was born in Thuringia, Germany, and began his career as a choirboy in the court chapel of Rudolstadt. Later on, he moved to Weimar, where he was employed as the court organist.

Peter's compositions were in line with the prevailing styles of his time, which included the classical and baroque periods. He was heavily influenced by the works of composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. In his compositions, Peter often used polyphonic textures and intricate harmonies.
