Johann Friedrich Agricola was a German composer, singer, and music theorist born in Dobitschen on January 4th, 1720. He is considered one of the most significant representatives of the Berlin School of composers. Agricola received his early music education from his father before he went to Leipzig to study with Johann Sebastian Bach. In 1749 he became the court composer and singer at the Prussian court and held this position until his death in 1774.

Agricola's music is characterized by its elegance, lightness, and simplicity. He was known for his mastery of counterpoint and for his ability to create works that were harmonically interesting yet still accessible to the listener. A prominent feature of his style was his use of short melodic motifs that were frequently repeated and developed throughout his pieces.

In addition to his compositions, Agricola was also a respected music theorist and wrote influential treatises on music theory. His "Anleitung zur Singkunst" (Guide to Singing) was widely used in his time and is still studied today. Agricola was also a close friend of the famous composer, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. In 1753, he married C.P.E. Bach's sister, Marianne.

Although Agricola's music is not as well-known as that of some of his contemporaries, his contributions to the development of music theory and his works are still revered by many music enthusiasts.
