Johann Ernst Galliard was a German composer who lived from around 1666 to 1749. He was a prominent composer of his time and gained recognition for his works in London, where he spent most of his career. Galliard was a versatile musician and played several instruments, including the oboe, the violin, and the bassoon. He was also an adept vocalist and worked as a singer in productions of operas and oratorios.
Galliard's work as a composer is widely recognized, and he was known for creating music for several theater productions in London. He wrote music for popular plays such as "She Wou'd and She Wou'd Not," "The Double Dealer," and "Macbeth." Galliard was also notable for his production, "Pyrrhus and Demetrius," which was performed in 1707.
Some of his well-known works include the six sonatas he wrote for recorder and harpsichord, which were published in 1724. He also composed sacred music, including his "Psalm 46," which was set to music and performed at the coronation of King George II in 1727.
